Nwifuru swears-in 13 newly elected Ebonyi Council Chairmen

Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru on Tuesday presided over the swearing-in ceremony of thirteen newly elected Local Government Council Chairmen, following a total sweep by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the statewide council polls.

The ceremony, held at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki, drew prominent political figures, including the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, and former Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Martin Elechi, alongside traditional rulers, party chieftains, and hundreds of grassroots supporters.

Administering the oath of office, Governor Nwifuru tasked the incoming council leaders with upholding accountability, transparent leadership, and proactive grassroots governance.

He urged the officials to justify their electoral mandate by aligning council administration with broader state development agendas and addressing critical community needs.

The swearing-in marks the formal assumption of office for council leadership across the state’s thirteen administrative divisions.

The incoming cohort comprises Chidiebere Onyema Alo (Abakaliki), Timothy Agha Uduma Nwachi (Afikpo), Odigwe Chibueze Nwelebe (Ebonyi), Oko Simeon Unuoha (Edda), Nwuhuo Linus Friday (Ezza North), Chinedu Mkpuma (Ezza South), Nwode Chidi Henry (Ikwo), Agwu Peace Ifeoma (Ishielu), Anym Michael Kalu (Ivo), Helen Nnenna Aduga (Izzi), Osborne Nweze Umahi (Ohaozara), Eze Paul Ituma (Ohaukwu), and Ogbojia Ikechukwu (Onicha).

The event follows council elections in which the APC secured every chairmanship seat across the state, alongside sweeping all available councillorship wards.

Speaking on the significance of the outcome, administration officials emphasized that the newly inaugurated chairmen are expected to prioritize tangible infrastructure, community security, and public service delivery to match the scale of their electoral mandate.
