...Victim hospitalised with severe leg injury
...Defendants granted bail, trial to resume Sept. 16
A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, on Tuesday arraigned Mr Aliyu Usman and Ms Felicia Habila for allegedly assaulting their neighbour, Mr Ibrahim Salisu, and inflicting serious injuries during a dispute.
Prosecuting counsel, Ms Chinenye Okafor, told the court that the incident was reported to the Mabushi Police Station on 15 July by Mr Salisu.
According to Okafor, what began as a disagreement quickly escalated, with both defendants accused of attacking the complainant and using a cutlass to slash his left leg.
She explained that Mr Salisu sustained deep wounds and was rushed to Maitama General Hospital for treatment. The medical bill, she said, amounted to N250,000.
Okafor stated that the offence contravenes Sections 79 and 247 of the Penal Code.
Both Mr Usman and Ms Habila entered a plea of not guilty.
Defence counsel, Mrs Helen Akpala, applied for bail under Section 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA). She asked the court to consider the application favourably and grant the defendants bail on lenient terms.
Presiding Magistrate, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, approved bail in the sum of N300,000 for each defendant, with two sureties apiece. The sureties must reside within the court's jurisdiction, provide valid identification including a National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) ID card, and submit an affidavit of means of livelihood.
The case was adjourned to 16 September 2025 for further proceedings.
