NSC sets up diaspora talent committee

‎The National Sports Commission (NSC) has inaugurated the Nigeria Diaspora Talents Development Committee as part of efforts to identify and nurture young athletes of Nigerian descent across the globe.

‎The initiative is aimed at creating a structured talent pipeline that will strengthen Nigeria’s future in sports through early discovery, development, and sustained engagement with diaspora athletes.

‎According to reports, the programme will feature participation in key competitions such as the National Intermediate Games, while also scouting emerging talents through international platforms, including the London Youth Games and English Schools competitions.

‎Officials noted that the move represents a strategic shift towards long-term athlete development, focusing on early engagement and consistent support for promising talents.

‎The initiative is focused on the establishment of the Diaspora Athletes Monitoring, Mentoring and Support Unit (DAMMS), which will be responsible for tracking and mentoring identified athletes, as well as maintaining continuous engagement with them.

‎The initiative underscores its commitment to leveraging Nigeria’s global presence to build a competitive and sustainable sports ecosystem by integrating diaspora talents into national development frameworks.

The country stands to enhance its performance across international sporting events while strengthening grassroots connections.
