Super Falcons climb to 36th in new FIFA rankings

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, have climbed one spot to 36th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, maintaining their status as the highest-ranked team in Africa.
The latest update reflects incremental progress for the nine-time African champions, who continue to hold their position at the top of the continent despite growing competition from sides such as South Africa and Morocco.
Although the one-place rise may appear modest, it underscores the team’s consistency on the global stage, especially in a ranking system that heavily weighs recent match results and performances in international competitions.
The Super Falcons’ position also highlights their enduring influence in African women’s football, having long set the pace through dominance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and regular appearances at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In recent years, however, the gap between Nigeria and other African nations has narrowed, with improved investment, coaching, and player development across the continent intensifying competition for the top spot.
Globally, Nigeria remains outside the top tier dominated by countries such as the United States, Spain, and Germany, but continues to be recognised as one of Africa’s strongest representatives on the international stage.
For the team, the latest ranking provides both reassurance and motivation, reaffirming their continental leadership while highlighting the need for continued improvement ahead of upcoming qualifiers and major tournaments.
As preparations continue, attention will be on how the Super Falcons convert ranking stability into stronger performances, particularly in global competitions where expectations remain high.
