The National Security Adviser (NSA) to the President of Nigeria, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, visited Benue State on Tuesday in the wake of recent attacks by armed herders that led to the tragic deaths of more than 72 people.

Ribadu conveyed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to addressing the security challenges in the state, stating that the government would work closely with local authorities to restore peace and stability.

“We are gathered here today in a moment of sorrow, and it is during such times that we reveal our true character. The Federal Government of Nigeria stands with you, and together we will confront the security challenges facing this state,” Ribadu remarked.

During the visit, Ribadu was briefed by Benue State Governor, Rev. Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, who shared the devastating impact of the attacks on the lives of residents and the state’s economy.

Ribadu reassured the people of Benue that the Federal Government would do everything in its power to bring peace back to the region. He also called on Nigerians to avoid politicising the security situation, stressing that the loss of life is a matter of national concern.

Governor Alia expressed grave concern over the dire security situation in the state and reiterated his plea for increased support from the Federal Government to effectively tackle the crisis.

Nigerian NewsDirect reports that Ribadu’s visit comes as the state continues to recover from the deadly attacks that claimed over 72 lives during the Easter period. The assaults have been described as barbaric and inhumane, and state authorities have been working relentlessly to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Ribadu’s visit has brought a glimmer of hope to the people of Benue, reinforcing their belief that the Federal Government is serious about addressing the state’s security issues.

In response to the ongoing challenges, the state government has taken proactive steps to bolster security, including the purchase of 100 deluxe vehicles and 600 motorcycles to enhance the mobility of security personnel.
