The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zacch A. Adedeji PhD, held a strategic meeting yesterday with a high-level delegation from the Nigerian Shippers’ Council led by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima.

The primary focus of the engagement was to finalize discussions regarding the implementation of the National Single Window initiative and to establish a framework for the Council to collaborate with the revenue agency. Under this new arrangement, the Nigeria Revenue Service will take a lead role in enhancing and managing revenue collection mechanisms within the country’s vital maritime and logistics sectors.

During the session, the Shippers’ Council delegation expressed its readiness to align with the ongoing fiscal reforms being spearheaded by the revenue service to ensure a more efficient collection process. The partnership is expected to streamline financial operations at the ports and reduce administrative complexities for stakeholders across the shipping industry.

Both parties emphasized that this collaboration is essential for modernizing the maritime ecosystem and ensuring that all trade-related revenues are properly accounted for under the latest tax laws.

Furthermore, the delegation commended the leadership of the Nigeria Revenue Service for its commitment to transparency and inter-agency cooperation. The Shippers’ Council stated its strong support for these initiatives, noting that they are crucial for improving the overall efficiency of the nation’s revenue ecosystem.

By integrating the collection processes of both agencies, the government aims to create a more predictable and robust financial environment that supports the growth of international trade and national economic stability.
