The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is set to commemorate 70 years of women in policing, celebrating seven decades of courage, resilience, and service since the first set of female officers were enlisted in 1955.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday, the event is scheduled to hold from December 3 to 4, 2025, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The celebration will be attended by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, alongside serving and retired female police officers.

The Inspector General, in the statement, lauded the immense contributions of women to the operational effectiveness and public image of the Force, describing them as pillars of compassion, discipline, and integrity in policing.

“Their dedication and compassion have continued to be integral to the foundation of policing in Nigeria,” the IGP noted.

Over the years, women in the Force have excelled in various capacities ranging from administration and investigations to tactical operations and leadership roles. Their involvement, according to the IGP, has helped strengthen community trust and redefine policing with empathy and purpose.

As part of the anniversary activities, the Force has lined up a series of events, including a national lecture, a historical exhibition, panel discussions, and a community outreach programme. These activities aim to highlight the evolution and achievements of women in the Nigeria Police Force while charting a path for future progress.

Egbetokun reiterated his commitment to inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous capacity building for female officers, emphasizing that empowering women within the Force remains a key component of modern policing.

The Nigeria Police Force also expressed appreciation to all female officers, past and present, for their sacrifices and contributions to national security.

“Their courage and professionalism remain a source of pride and inspiration to the institution and the nation,” the statement added.
