The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, has dismissed speculation that the party is considering an alliance with the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ahmed said the rumour has no basis, stressing that the NNPP is pursuing its own political direction and has held no discussions—formal or informal—with President Bola Tinubu or the Presidency. He described the claims as completely detached from the party’s internal agenda.

He emphasised that the NNPP is focused on strengthening its structures nationwide, adding that the contest for Kano State in 2027 will be decided by voters, not political mergers.

Ahmed insisted that partnering with the APC would undermine the party’s growth, noting that “joining the APC will guarantee our failure in Kano.”

The chairman said the NNPP remains one of the few parties with a functional structure across all states and local governments, second only to the APC. He added that the party’s presidential ticket remains open to all qualified aspirants, with the final decision resting on the National Working Committee.

Reacting to assumptions about the influence of former Kano governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, Ahmed said no individual controls the NNPP. He noted that Kwankwaso understands the party’s internal processes and does not override its organs.

On the state of the opposition, Ahmed refuted claims that the APC is responsible for crises in other political parties.

He argued that internal contradictions—not external pressure—fuel instability. According to him, parties like the PDP and Labour Party are fragmented because they failed to stay cohesive.

“We prefer to be silent for the right reasons, not noisy for the wrong ones,” he said, adding that the NNPP has strategic internal plans that will be unveiled in due course.
