NIMASA woos private investors at Enugu International Trade Fair

…Showcases maritime opportunities
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has urged private individuals and corporate investors to capitalise on emerging opportunities within Nigeria’s Blue Economy, with a particular focus on the maritime sector.
This call was made by the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr Dayo Mobereola, at the ongoing 36th Enugu International Trade Fair.
Dr Mobereola, represented by Mr Umar Mohammed, Deputy Director in the Planning, Research and Data Management Service Department of NIMASA, underlined the agency’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government. He also stressed the importance of inclusive economic growth, particularly through increased indigenous participation in both domestic and international shipping.
“To unlock the full potential of our maritime economy, NIMASA is pursuing an integrated development strategy that will support indigenous operators in ship acquisition, establish a National Carrier Line, and create maritime training institutions for world-class seafarers,” he said.
He further pointed out that the agency is implementing a Public Sector Cargo Support Programme designed to foster a captive freight market for local carriers, thereby reducing the dominance of foreign shipping lines in Nigeria’s seaborne trade.
According to Mr Mohammed, NIMASA’s strategic initiatives are driven by public-private partnerships to ensure long-term sustainability and tangible impact.
“We are inviting investors and entrepreneurs to join us in developing a strong, competitive maritime sector that will generate jobs and contribute to the national economy,” he added.
On behalf of Dr Mobereola, Mr Mohammed took the opportunity to express gratitude to Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and the leadership of the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA) for hosting the trade fair, which he described as a critical platform for business networking and attracting investment.
NIMASA plays a pivotal role in promoting the Blue Economy in Nigeria, fulfilling its mandate to regulate maritime activities while ensuring the sustainable use of ocean resources.
