A building under construction collapsed on Monday afternoon at Agarawu Street near the Aroloya Central Mosque in Idumota, Lagos Island, triggering an immediate emergency response that resulted in the rescue of two adult males.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
He reported that the emergency call was received via the state’s toll-free lines (767 and 112) at 2:16 p.m., prompting the swift deployment of a response team from the Lekki base.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a storey building, still under construction, had collapsed on its own at the specified location,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
The two men trapped in the debris were successfully rescued and treated on-site by the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) Pre-Hospital Care Team.
“So far, two adult males rescued from the rubble of the building have received first aid treatment from the LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit,” he confirmed.
As of the latest update, no fatalities have been reported, and the search and rescue operations have been concluded.
Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area to prevent unauthorized access while investigations into the cause of the collapse are ongoing.
Although the exact cause remains unclear, authorities have assured the public of a comprehensive investigation to determine the factors behind the incident.
