Newlywed couple abducted along Kwara/Kogi border communities

A newlywed couple, identified as Funmilayo Bamidele and her husband, Reverend Abiodun David, have been kidnapped along the border areas of the Eruku-Iyemero Road between Kogi and Kwara states.

It was learned that the couple were returning from their engagement ceremony in Eruku when they were abducted alongside four others on Saturday evening.

According to sources, the vehicle was expected to ply the Isanlu Road, but the driver chose a back road in order to drop off the best man and other members of the group in Iyamoye, Kogi State.

The incident occurred along the Iyemero-Eruku Road, where the couple and the others were intercepted by armed bandits. Details about the incident, including the whereabouts of the other passengers and efforts to secure their release, are still being awaited.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, who confirmed the story, said that soldiers are already in the bush combing the area to fish out the perpetrators and free the couple.

Ojo said the vehicle in which the couple were traveling was parked at an abandoned police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State, adding that police operatives in the three affected states are jointly carrying out rescue operations since the crime was committed along the border communities of the three states.
