Police arrest four suspects over alleged burglary in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged burglary of a mobile phone shop in the Oja-Oba area of Osogbo, during which devices valued at approximately ₦5 million were stolen.

The suspects were identified by police authorities as Afeez Arole (30), Salami Wahab Idowu (49), Akanmu Afeez (37), and Adebisi Taofeek (47).

Disclosing the arrest in a statement on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, stated that the breakthrough followed intelligence-led surveillance and targeted police operations.

“On 1st September 2026, at about 2200hrs, a complainant reported that his shop at Oja-Oba, Osogbo, was burgled by suspected hoodlums who stole various mobile phones valued at approximately ₦5,000,000, and police immediately commenced a manhunt for the perpetrators.”

“On 22nd September 2026, at about 1830hrs, credible intelligence indicated that suspected hoodlums were sighted within the Oja-Oba area. Acting on this intelligence, police operatives raided the hideout, leading to the arrest of the four suspects,” Ojelabi explained.

Authorities recovered two Itel mobile phones from the suspects, which the complainant positively identified as part of the stolen merchandise.

Ojelabi noted that the suspects have provided statements to the police, while ongoing investigations aim to uncover the full scope of the criminal network and recover the remaining stolen items.

The Commissioner of Police for the Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, has directed the investigative team to intensify efforts to track down fleeing accomplices.

The command reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive, intelligence-driven policing, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through official channels.
