In a landmark address following his installation, the newly appointed Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja Arusa I, has renewed calls for the creation of a separate Ibadan State, citing the need for focused development and more effective governance for the city and its environs.

The monarch made the announcement during his acceptance speech, shortly after being officially presented with the staff of office by Governor Seyi Makinde at Mopo Hall in Ibadan on Friday.

The event, which drew prominent traditional rulers, political leaders, and dignitaries from across Oyo State and Nigeria, marked a historic moment in the city’s political and cultural history.

Oba Ladoja emphasised the strategic importance of Ibadan as a cultural and economic hub, noting that its size, population, and resources justify the creation of a separate state to enhance development and ensure equitable resource allocation.

“Ibadan is a city with immense potential. Its growth and contributions to the nation cannot be understated. It is my sincere belief that the creation of Ibadan State will unlock new opportunities for our people and allow for more focused governance,” he said.

The new Olubadan also pledged to work closely with the state government to ensure development across all areas of the city.

He promised that his reign would prioritise infrastructural improvements, enhanced healthcare, quality education, and youth empowerment, ensuring that governance works hand-in-hand with tradition for the common good of Ibadan residents.

“I am committed to working with the government and all stakeholders to bring progress and prosperity to every corner of our beloved city,” Oba Ladoja added.

Governor Makinde, in his remarks, congratulated Oba Ladoja on his ascension and assured him of continued support for initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of Ibadan residents.

He described the Olubadan as a unifying figure who would guide the city toward greater harmony and sustainable development.
