The Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) plans to roll out mass electric mobility in Taraba State to ease transport costs, create jobs, and tackle environmental pollution.
The Commission disclosed this on Monday in Jalingo during a stakeholders’ sensitisation workshop on deploying and operating electric mobility, popularly known as E-Mobility, in the state.
The initiative, according to the NEDC, aims to promote a cleaner, more sustainable transport system by introducing electric buses, vehicles, and tricycles.
Speaking at the event, the NEDC Managing Director, Muhammed Alkali, represented by the Commission’s State Coordinator, Mallam Adamu Lawan, said adopting e-mobility would not only improve transport but also reduce commuting costs, drive innovation, and create employment opportunities for residents.
He explained that the programme was designed to connect communities, expand economic opportunities, empower residents, and improve the overall quality of life across the state.
Alkali noted that the electric mobility programme aligns with key pillars of the Commission’s Master Plan, particularly connected regions and a protected environment, which aim to enhance regional connectivity and promote environmental sustainability.
He stressed that the initiative’s success would depend on effective collaboration among stakeholders and a collective commitment to translate the opportunities offered by electric mobility into practical, sustainable outcomes.
The Commission called on workshop stakeholders to contribute their expertise, ideas, and resources to ensure the project’s successful deployment, efficient operation, and long-term sustainability in Taraba.
It maintained that a coordinated approach involving all relevant actors would be critical to maximising the initiative’s economic and environmental benefits.
The NEDC expressed optimism that adopting electric mobility would catalyse sustainable development, economic expansion, and environmental protection in the state.
