NCAA urges aviation unions to suspend strike

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has appealed to striking aviation unions to halt their ongoing industrial action and exercise restraint while government intervention efforts continue.

In a statement issued today by the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Ona Najomo, the authority acknowledged the widespread impact of the industrial action on passengers and industry stakeholders.

Capt. Najomo appealed directly to the unions to sheathe their swords pending the return of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), who has been actively working toward resolving the dispute.

The regulatory agency revealed that the crisis would have been addressed earlier during a reconciliation meeting convened by the Minister last week; however, the meeting failed to hold because airline operators failed to honour the invitation.

Despite the operational disruptions, the NCAA assured the traveling public that flight safety remains uncompromised as the authority continues to perform its statutory safety oversight responsibilities.

Concluding the statement, the NCAA expressed sincere regret over the inconveniences caused to travelers, appreciated their patience, and urged all parties to embrace dialogue so that normal flight operations can resume as soon as practicable.
