Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Digital Engagement, Otega Ogra has dismissed criticisms from former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar regarding the National Broadcasting Commission’s (NBC) latest regulatory warning.
The NBC recently reminded broadcasters to adhere to professional ethics, including fairness and the avoidance of incitement, ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku had characterized the directive as an attempt to muzzle the media.
Reacting, the Presidential Aide pointed out that similar regulatory warnings were issued in 2007 during Atiku’s tenure as Vice President.
He questioned whether Atiku considered those past actions as attempts to silence the opposition or if he was simply projecting his own past thought processes onto the current administration.
The Presidential Aidde further argued that the NBC is merely performing its statutory duties to ensure a balanced media landscape.
He also criticized Atiku’s leadership record, particularly his oversight of the nation’s privatization program, which Ogra claimed led to the failure of several state-owned enterprises.
