Hawker hit in Okokomaiko crash, as LASTMA rescue seven

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of a roadside hawker in a fatal crash at Okokomaiko, while rescuing 7 injured passengers in a separate road accident at Ogudu inward Toll Gate in Lagos.
According to a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the incident at Okokomaiko involved a Lexus Jeep with registration number SMK 674 HY.
The crash reportedly claimed the life of an adult male hawker at the scene.
Accprding to the LASTMA PRO, the agency officials who responded to a distress call, secured the accident area and evacuated the remains from the carriageway to restore traffic flow.
Officers of the from Ketu Division subsequently conveyed the deceased to Badagry Mortuary for further procedures.
In a separate incident, LASTMA personnel also intervened in a collision at Ogudu inward Toll Gate involving a Mazda commercial bus (MUS 231 YA) and a Lexus Jeep (FKJ 23 HL) confirming that the 7 passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash and were rescued at the scene.
According to reports emergency response teams, including operatives from the Ogudu Police Division and officials of the LASAMBUS, were on ground to provide support, with the injured victims evacuated to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
LASTMA disclosed that all vehicles involved in both incidents have been handed over to the police for further investigation to determine the causes of the crashes.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, reiterated the agency’s call for motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations urging drivers to maintain safe speeds and exercise heightened vigilance, especially during late-night hours when visibility and alertness are often reduced.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to road safety and efficient traffic management across Lagos State.
