The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Axis, has accused the Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Students’ Matters, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez Amoo, of impersonation, misrepresentation, diversion of student welfare items, and orchestrating divisions within the student constituency.

The allegations were made on Wednesday during a world press conference addressed by the Chairman of NANS Ogun, Comrade Gabriel Abiola Francis, alongside Students’ Union Presidents from major tertiary institutions in the state.

Francis said the association has officially dissociated itself from Azeez, whom he described as “a government appointee parading himself as NANS leader without mandate or legitimacy.”

He alleged that the aide had repeatedly issued unauthorized letters, made unsolicited representations, and misled government officials and institutions while “hiding under the influence of his political office.”

The NANS leadership accused Azeez of diverting palliatives, welfare packages and resources provided by Governor Dapo Abiodun, especially items meant for Students’ Union Presidents and recognized stakeholders.

According to Francis, as far back as previous administrations, “allocations sent to NANS Ogun never reached us. They were either withheld or diverted under his supervision.”

He added that for the first time in recent years, rice palliatives from Dangote Foundation were delivered directly to campuses by the state government instead of being routed through Azeez.

NANS further alleged that the Special Assistant told student leaders that the Governor never released palliatives for students and falsely accused senior government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government and the Chief of Staff, of blocking resources meant for the student community.

Comrade Francis accused Azeez of creating friction between NANS and government officials by “using the Governor’s name to intimidate heads of institutions, coerce compliance with his directives, and push student leaders into attacking senior state functionaries based on fabrications.”

He claimed the aide often boasted of being “the only anointed son of the Governor,” a claim NANS believes must be thoroughly investigated.

The leadership also condemned what it described as Azeez’s role in instigating violence and disruptions in institutions such as MAPOLY, and coordinating attacks on student leaders who refused to align with him.

NANS called on security agencies, including the DSS and the police, to investigate previous incidents of violence, alleged misappropriation of funds, intimidation, and abuse of office linked to the Governor’s aide.

Francis also raised alarm over intelligence suggesting planned attacks on him and other student leaders for demanding transparency and accountability.

He appealed to security agencies to ensure the safety of all student leaders in Ogun State, while apologizing to the public for any inconveniences caused by the aide’s alleged actions.

The statement was jointly signed by the NANS Ogun Chairman and Secretary as well as Students’ Union Presidents of:
