Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has described his victory at the Supreme Court as a triumph for every citizen of the state, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious affiliation.
The Supreme Court, on Thursday, upheld Okpebholo’s election and dismissed all appeals challenging his victory, effectively ending months of litigation over the 2024 governorship poll.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo said the judgment has brought finality to the legal battles that trailed the 2024 governorship election and reaffirmed the sacred mandate freely given to him by the people of Edo.
He expressed deep gratitude to the judiciary for its courage and commitment to justice, and to the people of Edo State for their unwavering support, patience, and belief in democracy.
Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing a robust developmental agenda focused on security, infrastructure, education, agriculture, healthcare, youth empowerment, and job creation.
The statement reads partly, “The elections are over; now is the time for governance and healing. Let us close ranks and build a greater Edo together.
“Constructive criticism and diverse perspectives are welcome, but they must be rooted in a sincere desire to see Edo thrive.
“Edo belongs to all of us. The time has come to set aside differences and march forward—united in purpose, anchored in peace, and driven by a shared vision of progress.”
He extended an olive branch to his opponents and members of the opposition, urging political leaders across party lines to contribute constructively to the state’s progress.
Governor Okpebholo stressed the need for unity, describing Edo as a state with boundless potential that can only be unlocked through collective effort.
