Mother cries out over alleged attack on her son by political thugs in Lagos
Mother of an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs. Ramota Olajide Oshodi has cried out for justice after her son, Mr. Notik Adekunle Oshodi, was allegedly attacked and threatened by masked political thugs for refusing to step down for another candidate during the 2023 elections.
According to a police report obtained from the Ajegunle Police Station, Lagos, the incident was formally reported on January 9, 2023.
Mr. Oshodi, a resident of 141, Orodu Street, Ajegunle, Apapa, was said to be an active APC member who contested for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Constituency II.
She stated that party leaders had pressured him to withdraw from the race in favour of another aspirant, but he declined, having already secured strong grassroots support. His refusal, however, allegedly led to a violent reprisal.
Mrs. Oshodi recounted that her son was ambushed by armed thugs wearing masks, who attacked him in public and issued death threats if he failed to abandon his political ambition.
“They told him he would be killed if he didn’t step down. He was beaten and humiliated simply for standing by his decision. Since then, he has been living in fear because strange people have been monitoring him,” Mrs. Oshodi said.
The police confirmed that an extract of the report was issued for official purposes, while investigations have been launched to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The Investigating Police Officer (IPO), Jubril Abel, noted that detectives are working “to get to the root of the matter.”
Mrs. Oshodi appealed to the Lagos State Government, security agencies, and the APC leadership to ensure her son’s safety and bring those behind the attack to justice.
“No mother deserves to live in fear for her child’s life because of politics,” she said tearfully. “We are calling on the authorities to protect him and ensure that this matter does not end in silence.”
The Lagos State Police Command assured that the case is under investigation and reiterated its zero tolerance for political violence or intimidation.
