A 45-year-old Mechanic, Stephen Oladele on Thursday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, for allegedly obtaining N850,000 by false pretence.

Oladele is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Adegbenro alleged that the defendant committed the offences in July, at the Orogun area of Ibadan.

Adegbenro alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N850,000 from one Mr Niyi Kolapo, under the pretext of fixing a Compressor Natural Gas in his car.

He said the defendant failed to do so and instead converted the money to his personal use.

The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 383 and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Among other terms, the court held that the sureties must be blood relations of the defendant.

She adjourned the case until Nov.2, for mention.
