A 30-year-old man, Stephen Kayode, on Wednesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged theft of property worth N1.2 million.

Kayode, whose residential address was not stated, is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on causing a breach of peace and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, SP Benedict Aigbokhan alleged that the defendant committed the offences on Oct. 18, at about 4.00 p.m. at the Ikotun area of Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant, a former employee of PAB Hotel Ltd., conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace, by unlawfully entering into the company’s premises.

Aigbokhan alleged that the defendant stole a Cypher engine from the company valued at N1.2 million, and also vandalised a vehicle belonging to the company.

He said that the defendant was eventually arrested following police investigations.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 168(d) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The Magistrate, AK Dosunmu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Dec. 8, for mention.
