Man sentenced to four months community service for stealing palm oil

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced 20-year-old Olanrewaju Timilehin to four months of community service for stealing five 25-litre kegs of palm oil valued at N300,000.
Chief Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon delivered the judgment on Tuesday after Timilehin entered a guilty plea to a two-count charge of stealing.
Prosecutor Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi informed the court that the convict and an accomplice, who remains at large, broke into the residence of Mrs Adeoye Modupe at Basiri Better Life Area on 16 July at about 10:30 a.m. and stole five kegs of palm oil along with 25 litres of prayer water.
Adeniyi stated that the stolen goods were recovered after Timilehin admitted to the theft during police interrogation.
Babalogbon sentenced him to two months of community service for each count, to run consecutively, and cautioned him against any future involvement in crime, noting that he was a first-time offender.
The offences contravene Sections 301 and 303 of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.
