Court orders final forfeiture of $222,729.86 USDT recovered from Chinese nationals

Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday, 21 July 2025, ordered the final forfeiture of digital assets valued at $222,729.86 USDT recovered from Chinese nationals linked to cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.

The funds were part of the proceeds confiscated from a syndicate of 792 alleged cryptocurrency investment and romance fraud suspects apprehended on 10 December 2024 in Lagos during an operation codenamed ‘Eagle Flush Operation’ by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Owoeye issued the order following an ex parte motion filed on 18 July 2025 by the EFCC through its counsel, Zeenat Atiku.
