Man rescued unhurt from faulty elevator on Lagos Island

A man was rescued unhurt after becoming trapped in a malfunctioning elevator at a three-storey building on Freeman Street in the Zapass area of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said its Ebute Elefun Fire Station responded promptly after receiving a distress call and swiftly deployed a rescue team to the scene.

The agency said firefighters arrived within minutes and safely freed the trapped occupant without any injuries.

According to the Fire and Rescue Service, preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was caused by an accidental malfunction of the elevator.

The Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that no casualty was recorded during the rescue operation.

She praised the prompt response of the rescue team, stating that their timely intervention prevented the incident from escalating.

The agency also urged owners and managers of buildings fitted with elevators to carry out routine maintenance and regular safety inspections to prevent mechanical failures and ensure the safety of occupants.
