Omoku: Gunmen attack claims live of OSPAC commander, others

Omoku, the headquarters of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni (ONELGA) Local Government Area in Rivers State, was plunged into violence on July 22, 2026, after unknown gunmen launched a daylight attack on the town. 

The assault left the local vigilante leader (OSPAC Commander), identified as Stephen Nwaocha, and four women dead, while several others sustained injuries.

The Rivers State Police Command, speaking through its Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Blessing Agabe Karbolo, confirmed the incident and described it as tragic.

While confirming the attack, the PPRO advised local vigilante groups to coordinate closely with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders in their respective domains to ensure effective policing.

The motive behind the attack has not yet been established, and no group has claimed responsibility.

The Police Command urged members of the public to provide useful information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. 

ASP Karbolo assured the public that those responsible for the Omoku killings would be brought to justice, noting that an investigation is currently underway.
