A 29-year-old man, Ellajah Ebenezer, was on Monday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly burgling a residential property and stealing ₦210,000 in cash and two mobile phones valued at ₦500,000.
Ebenezer, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary, and theft. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Police prosecutor, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, informed the court that the offence took place on 6 February 2025 at No. 7 Ademola Street, Alade Owode, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant, acting with others who are still at large, unlawfully entered the home of one Mr Okeleye Gbemiga and made away with cash and valuables amounting to a total of ₦710,000.
The prosecutor noted that the charges are in violation of Sections 390, 412, and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
Presiding Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted Ebenezer bail in the sum of ₦200,000, with one surety in the same amount. The surety, according to the court, must reside within the jurisdiction, be employed, and present evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The matter has been adjourned until 30 June 2025 for further hearing.
