…Court sentences convict to three days of community service
A Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced 25-year-old Obaseki Friday to three days in prison, to be served as community service, for stealing tubers of yam from several farms.
Magistrate Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele delivered the sentence on Tuesday after the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Inspector Olubu Apata told the court that the theft occurred on 20 July at about 6:00 a.m. in the Imala community along Ijadu Road, Ado-Ekiti.
Apata explained that Friday entered the farms of three complainants, Yahaya Ibrahim, Isah Adams and Abdulquadri Ondeku, and harvested tubers of yam valued at N1.2 million.
“The convict was caught when he returned to steal more yams from the farms,” Apata added.
The act violates Section 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
