Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has announced a ₦10,000 monthly transportation support fund for state workers, including local government employees.

This initiative is designed to cushion the severe economic effects of the recent hike in the price of petrol, which has been linked to the ongoing geopolitical tensions and conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran.

Governor Makinde, who made the official declaration at an event held at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo, stated that the intervention will run for an initial period of three months.

He expressed optimism that the palliative measure, which is slated to take effect starting in April, may be extended beyond the initial timeframe depending on prevailing economic conditions.

According to the governor, the financial measure is specifically structured to cushion the immediate financial burden placed on civil servants, thereby ensuring uninterrupted and efficient service delivery across all government ministries, departments, and agencies.

He added that the timely initiative perfectly aligns with his administration’s ongoing commitment to worker-friendly policies and sustainable economic relief programmes under the overarching Oyo State government’s SAfER framework.

The prominent event saw a large turnout of key stakeholders, with notable attendees including the Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, and the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Oyo State Chapter, Comrade Kayode Martins, alongside various other top government functionaries.
