Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has alleged that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, pledged to secure the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made this startling revelation during a visit to Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
Detailing the sequence of events, Makinde recounted a private meeting he attended alongside President Tinubu and Wike.
According to the governor, it was during this gathering that the former Rivers State governor voluntarily offered to hold the PDP for the President to guarantee a smooth political victory in the upcoming electoral cycle.
Makinde expressed profound shock at the proposal, clarifying that such a sweeping arrangement was never part of any mutual agreement within their camp.
Firmly distancing himself from the alleged political maneuver, Makinde declared that while Wike is entirely within his rights to dictate his own political choices, he will absolutely not be backing President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The Oyo State governor stated that his previous alignment during the 2023 elections was a specific situational stance, warning that a permanent political surrender is out of the question.
Beyond the personal fallout, Makinde raised serious concerns about the implications of these political realignments.
He heavily criticized the ongoing wave of defections from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and cautioned against deliberate attempts by the ruling party to orchestrate internal crises within the opposition.
