Makinde, Mohammed dismiss claims of irreconcilable differences with Wike faction

...says PDP still poses a challenge for 2027 elections
Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State have firmly pushed back against claims that the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is beyond repair.
Speaking at a closed door meeting in Bauchi, the governors addressed comments made by the former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, who had suggested that reconciliation within the party was no longer an option.
The party crisis largely centers around the lingering political conflict involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his allied faction within the PDP.
According to Ikpeazu, the Wike camp has firmly resolved to align with and support President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections, allegedly making any attempt at party reconciliation a moot point.
Governor Makinde, addressing the issue, rejected the notion that the PDP must surrender to the Wike faction.
He clarified that the true measure of reconciliation is not about capitulating to one group's demands, but rather finding common ground that benefits the entire party.
He underscored that in any political negotiation, individuals and factions are free to support whomever they choose, but the ultimate judgment will be left to the Nigerian electorate.
Makinde remained resolute in his stance that the PDP is not beholden to any single faction and retains the strong backing of the people.
Echoing this sentiment, Governor Mohammed emphasized that the party's leadership does not believe the situation is unsalvageable.
He stated that in the realm of Nigerian politics, there are no irreconcilable issues, and that the PDP remains committed to navigating its internal disputes through the proper legal and democratic channels.
Mohammed stressed that the party is law-abiding and respects the ongoing judicial processes, viewing them as the appropriate avenues for resolving such complex political conflicts.
Both governors presented a united front, maintaining that despite the internal challenges and the divergent paths chosen by some prominent members, the PDP still possesses the institutional strength and public support necessary to overcome the current crisis and present a formidable challenge in future elections.
