LG commissions solar-powered borehole, mobile laundry's in Abeokuta

LG Electronics has commissioned a dual-purpose community project in Abeokuta, Ogun State, providing residents with free access to clean water and laundry services. 

The initiative, which includes a solar-powered borehole and a mobile laundry cabin, was commissioned on August 27, 2025. This project aims to improve daily life by addressing essential needs while promoting sustainability.

The project’s core feature is a solar-powered borehole that ensures a continuous supply of clean, potable water. By operating on renewable energy, it is independent of the national power grid and can provide water around the clock. The system also includes advanced filtration technology to guarantee the water is safe for drinking.

Alongside the borehole is a mobile laundry cabin, equipped with energy-efficient washing machines and dryers. Residents can use the facility for free from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. This service promotes hygiene and eases the daily burdens on local families.

Mr. Choongbae Seok, General Manager of Media Solutions at LG Electronics West Africa, stated that the project embodies "dignity, well-being, and hope," setting a new standard for social impact in the region.

He explained that the initiative is part of LG's broader vision to empower communities with sustainable solutions.

Mr. Oladipupo Taofeek, Chairman of the Ikija Community Development Association, called the project a "game-changer," noting that it has solved long-standing issues with water and laundry access. 

Honorable Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, Ogun State Commissioner for Housing, represented by Mr. Kolawole Agemo, commended LG for demonstrating how private-sector partnerships can drive real change.

The project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) on Good Health and Well-being, addressing both water scarcity and hygiene. 

By focusing on off-grid areas and integrating multiple services, the "Life's Good" initiative aims to build stronger, healthier communities and foster a more equitable world.
