Leclerc laps field as 2026 pre-season testing concludes

The pecking order for the 2026 Formula 1 season is beginning to take shape following the final day of testing at the Bahrain International Circuit. Charles Leclerc put Ferrari at the top of the timesheets with a blistering 1m 31.992s lap, nearly eight-tenths clear of McLaren’s Lando Norris.

While headline times in testing can be deceptive due to fuel loads, Ferrari’s "SF-26" showed remarkable reliability and long-run pace.

Meanwhile, the Mercedes camp remains a puzzle; while rookie Kimi Antonelli impressed with the second-fastest time of the week, the team struggled with pneumatic issues.

All eyes now turn to the season opener in Australia, where the true hierarchy of the new engine regulations will finally be revealed.
