The Nigerian telecommunications landscape witnessed a strategic expansion as Lebara Nigeria hosted its official soft launch in partnership with the British High Commission, signaling a long-term commitment to enhancing the country’s global connectivity architecture.
During the event held yesterday, the CEO and Founder of Lebara Nigeria, Teniola Stuffman, emphasized that the brand’s entry into the market is rooted in the belief that connectivity serves as a fundamental bridge to opportunity, education, and meaningful participation in the digital economy.
Describing Nigeria as a nation of extraordinary talent and ambition, Stuffman noted that the British-born brand aims to address the needs of millions who still require more inclusive, affordable, and globally connected digital access.
Lebara’s operational model in Nigeria is built upon its global expertise in serving migrant communities, small and medium enterprises, and international travelers by making cross-border communication seamless.
As a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), the company has partnered with Airtel Nigeria as its host network, allowing the brand to leverage robust national infrastructure while focusing its internal resources on product innovation and customer experience.
Stuffman clarified that the venture is specifically designed to evolve international roaming and cross-border affordability, strengthening the ties between Nigeria and its global diaspora.
Echoing this sentiment of economic promise, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, Chairman of the Advisory Board for Lebara Nigeria, highlighted the resilience and attractiveness of the Nigerian market despite global economic uncertainties.
Drawing a historical parallel to the early days of the telecommunications revolution in Nigeria, Ashiru recalled the initial skepticism surrounding the industry’s potential, which has since transformed into a pillar of the national economy.
He expressed a strong conviction that Lebara would achieve significant market penetration, projecting a minimum of one million subscribers within its first year due to the brand’s focus on customer service delivery and its strategic partnership with established players like Airtel.
Ashiru further noted that the telecommunications sector remains the fastest-growing part of the Nigerian economy outside of the oil industry.
He pointed out that the evolution of mobile technology has already revolutionized the banking sector, enabling real-time transactions that were once impossible.
By aligning with this rapid digital transformation, Ashiru believes Lebara will become a household name, providing smart capital and reliable services to a population of over 200 million people.
He emphasized that the partnership between the British government, the Nigerian government, and the Lebara team represents a success story of international collaboration and responsible investment.
The launch was characterized not as a mere commercial entry but as a signal of intent to build responsibly and for the long term.
As the brand moves toward full operations, it intends to utilize data-led strategies to measure performance and ensure that agricultural productivity and SME growth are supported through improved digital inclusion and measurable credibility.
