Lagos to demolish shanties, illegal structures harbouring criminals

By Sodiq Adelakun

The Lagos State Government has marked shanties and illegally developed buildings in Itu-Mara, Mainland Local Government Area, for demolition, citing concerns over safety and criminal activities.

According to the General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Mr. Gbolahan Oki, the government aims to improve the area’s overall appearance and functionality.

Oki alleged that the shanties were being used as hideouts for criminals, posing a threat to the safety of the community.

He also noted that many of the illegal buildings were dilapidated, risking collapse.

“The present administration will leave no stone unturned in safeguarding the lives and property of Lagos,” Oki said.

He emphasised that the agency had formally notified residents of the impending demolition and urged them to comply with the order.
