Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured residents that the second phase of the Adiyan Water Works project will be completed within the next 10 to 12 months.
The project, when finished, will deliver 70 million gallons of water daily, greatly improving the state’s water supply capacity to meet the growing demands of Lagosians for clean and reliable water.
Governor Sanwo-Olu made the announcement during a working visit to the Adiyan Water Works site, where he was joined by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project, which is currently 80% complete, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing it within the specified time frame.
“We remain committed to fulfilling our promise of providing Lagosians with better access to portable water,”he stated.
He also commended the cooperation of the residents in the areas surrounding the construction site, which has contributed significantly to the smooth progress of the project.
Once completed, the Adiyan Water Works is expected to significantly ease the water supply challenges faced by the state.
Also, the governor touched on the government’s plan to further improve the Independent Power Project (IPP) in Akute, which will supply steady electricity to the water works, ensuring its efficient operation after completion.
In his address, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the water supply infrastructure across Lagos. He noted that the Adiyan Water Works project is in line with the state’s long-term vision to provide sustainable water sources for Lagosians.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Water Corporation, Mukhtaar Tijani also expressed appreciation for the continued support from Governor Sanwo-Olu and the administration. He assured that the contractor would complete the remaining works on schedule.
The Adiyan Water Works project, which began in 2013, was initially awarded in 2012.
Once completed, the project will provide an additional 70 million gallons of water per day, which is expected to cater to millions of Lagos residents and help reduce the ongoing water supply challenges in the state.
