The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into a viral video allegedly showing students of Excel College, Ejigbo, smoking substances suspected to be marijuana in their hostel.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, confirmed the probe on Wednesday through the ministry’s Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Kayode Sutton.
The disturbing footage, which sparked outrage on social media, has led to widespread calls for accountability.
“This is terrible. The school authorities definitely have a lot of questions to answer,” one concerned citizen wrote. Another warned: “This must not be treated with kid gloves. These boys will turn out to be drug addicts, criminals, and armed robbers. Parents, wake up.”
In response, Commissioner Alli-Balogun disclosed that the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has set up a special investigative panel to handle the matter.
“The Lagos State Government maintains a zero-tolerance policy for such acts in both public and private schools. Due diligence and appropriate action will be taken,” Alli-Balogun said.
