First Lady launches campaign to combat measles, rubella

The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, officially launched the Measles and Rubella Vaccination Campaign at Lagos House, Ikeja.
The initiative, a collaborative effort with the Governor's Spouses Forum and the Centre for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions, aims to protect children and eradicate these preventable diseases across the state.
The announcement was made following a stakeholders' meeting held to introduce the Measles and Rubella (MR) Vaccine to Lagos State health officials and other partners.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu emphasized the critical need for this widespread vaccination program to safeguard the health of the state's most vulnerable population its children.
Starting in January 2026, the MR vaccines will be administered free of charge. The campaign is designed for broad accessibility, with vaccination posts to be set up at all government health facilities and designated school-based sites throughout Lagos State.
The launch of the campaign is a proactive step by the Lagos State government to address public health concerns and reduce the incidence of measles and rubella, which can cause serious complications and long-term health issues in children.
The partnership with key health and welfare organizations underscores a unified commitment to achieving a healthier and more resilient Lagos.
