Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering resilient, creative, and innovative leadership across the state on Wednesday.
Speaking at the second edition of the Lagos Leadership Summit, organised by the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, Sanwo-Olu underscored the significance of quality education, hard work, and surrounding oneself with knowledgeable individuals as key pillars of effective leadership.
The governor explained that leadership is centred around service, stressing that every experience offers valuable lessons that can shape a leader’s character.
“I have been fortunate to continue the aggressive leadership legacy of my predecessors, such as President Bola Tinubu, Babatunde Raji Fashola, and Mr. Ambode. I’ve continually reinvented myself and embraced innovation. Even in failure, I keep moving forward,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged young people to seize opportunities by putting forth their best efforts and remaining loyal in public service.
“In public service, loyalty is essential. People must be able to trust you. It’s a fundamental aspect of creative leadership,” he advised. The governor also warned against trusting everything on social media, urging leaders to build upon existing foundations.
Former Lagos State Governor and Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who was the guest speaker at the event, called for national unity, urging Nigerians to overcome divisiveness and work together towards a more integrated nation.
“The 1999 Nigerian Constitution promotes inclusion and national integration. Leaders must collaborate to bring this vision to life and ensure that no one is left behind,” Fashola stated.
Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, Executive Secretary of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, commended Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership and unwavering support for the academy, acknowledging his contributions to its success.
