Lagos begins rollout of clean vehicles, CNG

The Lagos State Government has taken a significant step towards sustainable transportation with renewed efforts to implement clean mobility solutions across the State.

This follows the second Strategic Stakeholders’ Engagement on Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV), electric mobility, and charging infrastructure development held in Ikeja.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, said the State is transitioning from policy formulation to full implementation of alternative fuel initiatives.

He noted that the adoption of cleaner energy sources such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles is essential for a megacity like Lagos, given its environmental and economic benefits.

According to him, the initiative is expected to create jobs, attract investment, and improve air quality, while reducing carbon emissions.

Ogunleye stressed the need for collaboration among government agencies, private sector players, and development partners to ensure effective execution.

Participants at the engagement also highlighted the importance of building technical capacity and ensuring infrastructure readiness to support long-term sustainability.
