Lagos signs MoU with UK football club

The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Abbey Rangers Football Club of the United Kingdom to promote grassroots football development.
The agreement, signed at Teslim Balogun Stadium, aims to nurture young talent across communities and schools in the State.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Bolaji Ogunlende, said the initiative aligns with efforts to use sports as a tool for social inclusion and economic empowerment.
He noted that developing grassroots football will provide viable career opportunities for young people and help reduce social vices.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, said the partnership reflects the State’s commitment to structured sports development programmes.
He added that the initiative will focus on early talent identification and professional training to prepare young athletes for global opportunities.
The partnership is expected to strengthen Lagos’ position as a hub for sports development in Nigeria.
