Labourer jailed 1 year for stealing a T-shirt

A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 19-year-old labourer, Irmiya Joseph, to one year imprisonment for stealing a T-shirt.

Joseph pleaded guilty to theft .

The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, gave Joseph an option of N50,000 fine.

While reviewing the facts, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on Aug. 28 at the Nassarawa Gwong police station by  Narin Haggai , the complainant.

Gokwat said the convict stole the t-shirt from the complainant’s house where it was hung out to dry.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 383 of the Plateau Penal Code Law.
