Cart pusher docked for allegedly stealing 4 bags of dates

A 20-year-old cart pusher, Usman Musa, was on Wednesday docked in a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing four bags of dates worth N760,000.

Musa, whose address was not provided, is charged with criminal conspiracy and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the complainant,  Adamu Maizakara of Kawo, Kaduna, reported the matter at the Gabasawa Police Station on Sept. 27.

Leo said that the complainant, bought four bags of dates and engaged the defendant to convey them in his wheelbarrow to his shop in Kawo Market in Kaduna.

He alleged that while the complainant was making a phone call, Musa conspired with another person, who is at large, to steal the four bags of dates.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Emmanuel said the sureties must provide evidence of two years tax clearance as part of the bail conditions.

He further ordered that one of the sureties must be a relation of the defendant.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Oct. 26 for hearing.
