…Says Saraki has no link to Atiku-led movement

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has firmly dissociated itself from the newly announced political coalition, cautioning its members and supporters not to be misled by what it described as a desperate ploy by politically irrelevant figures to exploit the party’s legacy.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the State Secretary, Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode, the party reaffirmed that it maintains no ties with any alliance fronted by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any external platform outside the recognised PDP framework in Kwara State.

“We wish to categorically state that the PDP, particularly in Kwara State under the leadership of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has no connection whatsoever with the coalition being promoted by Atiku Abubakar or any other political formation,” the statement read.

Kayode alleged that certain “stranded and unpopular politicians,” who had either abandoned the PDP or slipped into political obscurity, were now falsely aligning themselves with prominent figures in the party, particularly Dr Saraki, in a bid to boost the credibility of their new coalition.

“These individuals were nowhere to be found during the September 2024 local government elections. Yet, the PDP emerged victorious, even in the face of widespread manipulation by the APC, a testament to the people’s confidence in our leadership,” he stated.

The party condemned what it called deceptive political manoeuvres aimed at piggybacking on Dr Saraki’s popularity, challenging those involved to stand on their own record rather than attempt to hijack the PDP’s image.

“If they truly enjoy popular support, they should build their movement independently instead of trying to benefit from the goodwill of our leader,” Kayode said.

He further reiterated Dr Saraki’s steadfast loyalty to the PDP, describing him as fully committed to strengthening and revitalising the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement concluded by advising members to reject any overtures from the newly formed coalition and to remain steadfast under the PDP umbrella.

“The PDP in Kwara remains united, strategic, and committed to its core principles. Our roadmap to 2027 is intact and does not involve joining forces with any ad hoc political arrangement,” the party affirmed.
