The newly elected Chairperson of the Kogi NGO Network (KONGONET), Hamza Aliyu, has pledged to deepen engagement with government institutions and key stakeholders to drive infrastructural development and improve citizens’ welfare across Kogi State.

Aliyu made the commitment during a farewell and appreciation event held in honour of the immediate past Chairperson, Ambassador Idris Ozovehe Muraina, over the weekend.

Reaffirming his dedication to transparency, accountability, and discipline, Aliyu assured members of the civil society community that he would build on the legacy of his predecessor and elevate KONGONET’s impact.

“I understand the weight of this responsibility, and I’m committed to upholding the high standards set by Ambassador Muraina,” Aliyu said. “With collaboration and the continued support of our members, we will strengthen civil society engagement across all sectors in Kogi.”

Speakers at the event praised Ambassador Muraina for his leadership, commending his patience, transparency, and ability to unify civil society organisations during his tenure. They urged Aliyu to promote the same values of inclusivity and cooperation that contributed to KONGONET’s recent achievements.

Expressing confidence in Aliyu’s leadership, several members highlighted his past support and teamwork, which they believe will ensure a smooth transition and even greater success.

In an emotional farewell speech, Ambassador Muraina thanked members for their unwavering support and emphasised the collective effort behind the progress achieved during his tenure.

“I am proud of what we accomplished together. Comrade Aliyu was a pillar of support throughout my leadership, and I’m confident he will surpass our achievements,” he said.

Muraina also pledged to continue offering advice and support to the new leadership, encouraging members to remain engaged and proactive in advancing the role of civil society in the state.
