The Obalohun of Okoloke in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oba Dada Ogunyanda, has been released after 28 days in the hands of kidnappers.

The traditional ruler was abducted by gunmen on May 15, 2025, and was freed at midday on Tuesday, June 11, following concerted efforts by security agencies and local vigilante groups.

Mr Tosin Olokun, Chairman of Yagba West Council, confirmed Oba Ogunyanda’s release, calling it a victory for the community and proof of their unity and resilience.

Olokun said the joint operations by local hunters, vigilance groups, and the military exerted sustained pressure on the kidnappers, leading to the safe return of the monarch.

“We thank God and all security stakeholders who worked tirelessly to secure Kabiyesi’s safe release. Today is a joyous day for Yagba West.

“Throughout the 28 days of captivity, we stayed closely engaged with the affected community and never gave up searching.

“The message is clear: criminality will not thrive in Yagba West,” he said.
