The Osun State Government has assured the residents of Akinlalu town in Ife North Local Government Area that the killers would not go unpunished.

Barrister Kolapp Alomi, Commissioner for Information, who led the state government delegation to the palace of Akinlalu to assess the killings and console the people, said the state government has directed security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the recent killings in the town.

He emphasised that the political situation in the state is tense and that the fundamental rights of every citizen must be protected. He vowed that no one involved in the heinous act would go unpunished.

Recall that the state Amotekun Corps stormed the town on Sunday, killing three people while several others were hounded.

Alomi described the incident as horrendous, assuring residents that frantic efforts were being made to uncover the truth behind the killings.

Alomi said: “This is a serious issue, we came here to understand the root of the incident and to prevent future occurrences. Anyone found guilty will be brought to justice.

“The report of this incident will not be swept under the carpet. We condole with the families of the deceased and the people of the town.”

The commissioner expressed sympathy for the victims’ families and the entire Akinlalu community, promising that the government would take decisive action.

During the visit, the leader of the local youth group, Adegboye Musbau, recounted how the tragic incident occurred. He explained that he had immediately contacted the Commandant of the Amotekun Corps after the attack.

He added: “Three people were killed, while several others were injured. We want to know where those arrested by Amotekun are being kept.”

Musbau added that the youths would not relent if the government failed to take decisive action.

A grieving father, Mr. Oyebamiji, whose two sons were among those killed, described his unbearable pain since the tragedy.

“I have been in deep grief since the killing of my two sons,” he lamented.

The Special Adviser on Security to the Governor assured the people of Akinlalu that the government deeply cares about their community and would ensure that justice is served.

He revealed that three members of the Amotekun Corps had already been arrested and were currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Also speaking, the Akinlalu of Akinlalu, Isreal Idowu Oloyede, urged the government to take swift action to identify and prosecute those responsible for the killings.

He expressed concern that some of the alleged perpetrators were still freely moving around the community.

In his remarks, the Attorney-General of the State assured residents that justice would be served.

“The culprits will be prosecuted, and justice will be delivered,” he stated firmly.

The visit was attended by service chiefs, commissioners, and several special advisers.
