Kebbi State Speaker dies in Egypt after brief illness

The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Ankwai, has passed away in Egypt following a brief illness.

His passing was announced by the NTA News Network in a brief statement released on Tuesday. The lawmaker reportedly died on Monday while receiving medical treatment in Cairo.

Ankwai, who represented the Zuru Constituency, was elected Speaker of the 10th Kebbi State Assembly on June 8, 2023.

His death has thrown Kebbi’s political circles into mourning, with tributes pouring in for the late lawmaker, who was widely regarded as a calm and dedicated leader.

Details regarding his burial rites are expected to be announced by the state government shortly.
