Katsina gov’t approves massive housing, agro-processing, education reforms
In a decisive move to enhance housing, water supply, agriculture, and education, the Katsina State Executive Council on Thursday approved a series of strategic projects aimed at driving socio-economic development across the state.
The approvals were made during the 18th regular council meeting at the General Muhammadu Buhari House, Katsina, chaired by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.
In a statement signed by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the council highlighted plans to expand housing, strengthen water infrastructure, and empower youth through skills acquisition.
The statement reads partly: "This project will ensure steady provision of clean, potable drinking water for Tsagero and surrounding communities.
"This investment will enhance skills development, improve employability, and support career growth among our youth.
"This incentive is meant to encourage teachers to accept rural postings, remain in those locations, and improve their commitment to teaching.
"These centres will provide regular training programmes to upgrade classroom practices and enhance instructional delivery across the state."
According to Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, the council approved the construction of a small-town water scheme in Tsagero, Rimi Local Government Area, ensuring continuous access to potable water for residents.
The council also greenlit the Dr. Dikko Radda Cassava/Gari Processing Centre in Batsari Local Government Area to promote cassava farming and agro-processing initiatives.
On youth empowerment, 28 departments at Katsina Youth Craft Village will receive tools, machines, and equipment to strengthen practical skills and enhance employability.
Housing expansion remains a central priority, with approval granted for 150 completed housing units and 350 serviced plots equipped with essential facilities to address the state metropolis’s housing challenges.
Education reforms were bolstered with the approval of a rural teacher allowance of ₦30,000 per term, totalling ₦90,000 per academic session, alongside the establishment of three Teacher Development Centres in Katsina, Daura, and Funtua senatorial districts. The centres will provide regular training programmes with trainers sourced from Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Isah Kaita College of Education, and retired teachers.
Healthcare regulation is set to improve following approval for supervision and monitoring of private health institutions across the state, ensuring adherence to operational standards.
Urban planning reforms were highlighted with the implementation of reviewed master plans for Katsina, Funtua, and Daura, aimed at creating orderly urban development and modern infrastructure.
Also, the council endorsed the 2026 Business Enabling Reform Action Plan, designed to improve the ease of doing business and attract investors to Katsina.
