Kano NDC guber candidate calls for coordinated security response to end bandit attacks

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo, has called for urgent and coordinated security action against bandit attacks reported in parts of the state.

Abdussalam-Gwarzo, who made the call in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba, on Tuesday, condemned the attacks and sympathised with the victims and their families.

He specifically cited reported attacks on Chiromawa in Garun Mallam Local Government Area, Beli in Rogo, Bebeji, and communities around Gwarzo.

Abdussalam-Gwarzo described the attacks as a threat to lives, livelihoods, and economic activities, saying residents should not be forced to abandon their homes, farms, and businesses because of criminal activities.

He urged security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, surveillance, and targeted operations in vulnerable communities.

The NDC candidate also called on the government to identify and close possible security gaps that could enable bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal groups to establish footholds in rural communities.

He said protecting lives and property remained the primary responsibility of government and should be treated as an immediate priority.

The candidate, however, commended security personnel for their efforts in confronting criminal elements, and urged them to sustain intelligence-led operations and improve rapid-response mechanisms in vulnerable communities.

He appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies to help prevent future attacks, rescue kidnapped victims, and facilitate the arrest and prosecution of perpetrators.

The candidate noted that sustainable economic development, agricultural productivity, and social progress could not be achieved without peace and security.

He said farmers, traders, and other residents must be able to access their farms, businesses, and communities without fear.

“Persistent insecurity could undermine food production, livelihoods, and the wider economy of the state,” he warned.

Abdussalam-Gwarzo prayed for the repose of those killed, while urging affected communities to remain united and resilient in the face of the security challenges.
